Why should I use Big Wally’s Plaster Magic®?
Big Wally’s Plaster Magic® provides a fundamental reinforcement of your plaster walls and ceilings. The most important aspect of plaster repair is to stabilize your existing plaster first-before filling in holes and cracks. As long as the plaster is still in place, it can be stabilized and repaired.
For those who are thinking of having another person do the repairs, I offer a few words of caution: beware of those who may suggest removal and replacement with drywall or modern veneer plaster. Remember-you cannot replace your original plaster with anything as good.
Will Big Wally’s Plaster Magic® work on ceilings as well as walls?
Absolutely! The same set of instructions is used for ceilings as for walls. Tom Silva demonstrated how to use Big Wally’s Plaster Magic on
Ask This Old House, the concept is simple and the product easy to use.
Will Big Wally’s Plaster Magic® work on stucco?
YES. Big Wally’s Plaster Magic will work on stucco. With this adhesive system you can attach stucco or plaster to wood, wood lath, brick, terra cotta or cement block. It works with any cementitious material and wood. If you’re re-attaching stucco to a masonry substrate, you will need to use a different bracing system, for example 2x4’s and boards or sheets of plywood.
You say your product cannot freeze, can I still order your product during the winter months?
YES. During the months with freezing temperatures, we line each box with insulated bubble wrap and include a heat pack for added insurance. So you’re package does not sit in an unheated warehouse over a weekend, we ship Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday only.
Can I get more plastic clamps?
We’ve heard you! Now, Big Wally’s Plaster Magic comes with more clamps. The Contractors Pack contains 50 clamps and screws; the Painters Pack, Three Pack, Two Pack, One Pack and Accessory Pack contain 25 clamps and screws.
I need one or two more tubes of adhesive to finish my project. Can I purchase a smaller quantity?
YES, you can buy individual tubes of adhesive and/or bottles of conditioner. Please call us at 802-254-1330 to order by phone. We can help you determine the quantity of adhesive and/or conditioner you need to finish your project. One 10 oz. tube of adhesive is $15.00; one 32 oz. spray bottle of conditioner is $20.00.
Can I purchase larger amounts of Big Wally’s Plaster Magic® for my projects?
You can purchase whatever quantities you need. We recommend a 2 to 1 ratio of adhesive to conditioner. The adhesive is packaged in 10 oz. cartridges, the conditioner comes in 32 oz. spray bottles or one gallon containers. If you purchase the conditioner in one gallon containers, we suggest using a high quality garden sprayer to spray it into the holes (this is what we use on big jobs). Please give us a call to discuss your project, we can help you calculate how much adhesive, conditioner and clamps you’ll need.

I have a lot of loose plaster and I’m trying to repair it. I can’t afford your tools and products, can I substitute adhesive caulk?
You’ve brought up a great question. And the answer is why we developed Big Wally’s Plaster Magic. Professional solutions are not always readily available to the homeowner/consumer. And the main reason may be because they’re more costly to produce since they’re professional grade (for example: we use pure, high-quality chemical components and no fillers or bulking agents). I guess you might say – you get what you pay for.
Regardless, using Big Wally’s Plaster Magic will save you tons of time and last longer than any other repair method. You can use an adhesive caulk (I’ve known people to use denture grip), but they are bound to fail. You’re actually comparing apples and oranges; adhesive caulk and Big Wally’s Plaster Magic are chemically very different. Our adhesive system has been specially formulated to overcome the dry and dirty surface conditions inside walls and ceilings; whereas other adhesives do not accommodate this situation. We’ve been using this adhesive for 25 years in our restoration contracting business with great success.
I have a problem locating plaster to fill in missing areas. I’ve used Plaster of Paris before and it seemed to work well. Is that okay?
It’s all about the materials, and whether or not they’re readily available for your purchase and use. You and a million other people are in this same situation. You can use joint compound to fill in cracks, nicks and small missing areas less than one-quarter inch wide. Plaster of Paris is hard, the original plaster is softer; you’re creating a situation where these two materials, side-by-side, will not work well together. For the DIY homeowner, an easy base coat recipe for filling in missing plaster that will work much better than patching plaster or Plaster of Paris is: 3 parts Structo-lite (or Gypso-lite) + 2 parts masons sand (play sand works) + 2 parts hydrated lime (measure the amounts by volume). Step 1 – mix the Structo-lite with water; Step 2 – add the sand; Step 3 – add the lime. Mix to a smooth paste. Apply in two layers. This material will set in an hour or so. Use joint compound as the finish coat. We are plaster repair experts – please visit our restoration contracting website
